Excerpt:

The light is fading. The bit of blue in the sky is gone, the wind picking up again. You should be back soon from Bart’s.

A taxi stops outside. I listen. I listened for months after you fell, hoping, hoping, strangled by hope. I hear the door shut, your foot on the stair. I glance at my laptop screen. I haven’t written much, deleted most of what I did write. It’s hard for me to tie this down in words. I was really just waiting for you to return.

Everyone's undoubtedly heard about CBS doing this new show of theirs, Elementary. My first reaction was to make this face:
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Repeatedly. Well, no, that suggests I stopped at some point and got going again. Anyway, I digress. Personally I'm a bit wary of the whole thing and expect it to either be a BBC knock-off in disguise or a complete flop that throws the book canon completely out the window and treats its audience like brain damaged toddlers.

I fear Watson being a woman only means there is an excuse to turn the whole thing into a soap opera. I do think that the idea is different and for that, could be good, but I have my fannish Sherlock Holmes related ideas and it also scares the pants off me for what it could do if not executed well.

This is not a hatred of any kind for Lucy Liu. I think she's pretty cool, usually. Honestly, I don't even take issue with the idea of her in the role of Watson so much as the idea of CBS deciding, on the coattails of BBC Sherlock's success, that they're going to throw their hat into the ring, too, and try to do a show about Sherlock Holmes in the modern age. It's not necessary, someone is already doing it. There's a movie franchise, too, so now there's going to be yet another Sherlock Holmes show?

Anyone else have different ideas/opinions about the new Elementary show on CBS? Looking forward to it? Not looking forward to it? Who's planning to watch it, or at the very least, set their TiVo to record it?
