A/N: Written for mmc12 whose generous prompts for the December 2013 Holmestice Exchange included "Johnlock, Mystrade and Anything!" which spurred me to write a sequel to Necropolis. The two may be read as a pair or as part of the Other Experiments Series where they would fit in after We Are Sorry For Any Inconvenience and before Leaf Fall.

Summary: Months after The Fall, John doesn't return from a holiday. His friends and family don't report his absence to the police. Mycroft thinks Lestrade may know why. At least that's the ostensible reason for his visit to Lestade's office.

Excerpt: Lestrade considered the man standing in his office. He was sure that if Sherlock wanted his brother to know he was alive and well and where he and John were, Mycroft wouldn’t be suggesting a friendly chat over dinner. Mycroft gestured towards the door as Greg stood and rounded the desk. He knew it was a dangerous move to accept, but Sherlock wasn’t the only one who loved a challenge.

Excerpt: “Why must you go? I don’t approve,” Sherlock said, drawing himself up to his maximum height and directing a stern look at his older brother. “I’ve considered it carefully and it makes no sense for you to waste your time with a gaggle of idiots rather than spending it with me. My company is far more edifying than theirs could ever be.” Sherlock brushed a curl from his forehead without losing a whit of his outrage or his dignity.

Mycroft studied the slim, pale child in front of him and remembered gathering a new bundle of life in his arms and thinking that it would always be his, his brother, his companion, his responsibility.
