[identity profile] lustmordred.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] 221_b_baker_street

We did this once before a couple of years ago and it went pretty well. I thought it would be fun to do it again and maybe meet some new people who have joined the community since the last time. So the purpose of this is to meet people with the same or similar interests. In this case, hopefully Sherlock is one of those :D

Talk, share things, friend people's journals and begin to stalk them... Whatever.

Where are you from/at?:

England is England yet, for all our fears–
Only those things the heart believes are true.
A yellow fog swirls past the window-pane
As night descends upon this fabled street:
A lonely hansom splashes through the rain,
The ghostly gas lamps fail at twenty feet.
Here, though the world explode, these two survive,
And it is always eighteen ninety-five.

Anything more specific or literally true than that would be telling on a public thread. Also irrelevant, because this is increasingly where I truly live.

Favorite Sherlock episode:

Goodness, how do you answer that? I love bits of it to pieces, for different reasons on different days - I mean, how do you compare the utter perfection of Sherlock's addiction to danger with the decision to take the pills in A Study in Pink, to the equally utter perfection of encountering Moriarty in the mind-palace in HLV, the the utter fun of the opening of Belgravia where they're doing the whole Watson-is-our-blogger thing, to the sheer terror in his face at Baskerville when he begins to feel, to the giggly fun of Sherlock crashing John's date with Sara in Blind banker (and let's not even get started on that fight scene at the beginning...

Yeah, I'm going to need a more specific question here. Also the ability to go more specific than a whole episode. But, because if pressed and because it's so consistently wonderful, unexpected, and was even in my case so long-expected, I'd opt for "Many Happy Returns."

Favorite Sherlock quote:

Again, it's so hard to choose because so many quotes speak to me in different ways - some make me laugh, others make me cry, whereas others make me want to throttle Sherlock across the head with a glow-in-the-dark rabbit. But if you pushed me, and primarily because it so encapsulates so much about what I love about this series:

We are in Buckingham Palace, the very heart of the British nation. Sherlock Holmes, put your trousers on!

Favorite Sherlock characters:

Lately, it's been the four M's:

1. Moriarty: Such a perfect villain. I miss him so much sometimes it hurts. He was so clever, so refined, so vicious, so without boundaries, such a perfect foil for Sherlock at this moment in time.
2. Mycroft. Because he is me. The long-suffering nature, his quiet love, his snark, his vulnerability against all appearances.
3. Mary Morstan. I'm not trying to defend her actions, but as an intellectual exercise I find thinking through everything about her to be thrilling. She's the one I feel most compelled to find a way to make sense of without excusing everything she did - to offer her respect, I guess.
4. And Mrs. Hudson. Because she's just cool, completely unflappable, and is Sherlock's fiercest defender without IMO actually enabling him. Love her.

Favorite ships: Johnlock, Mystrade, and Holmescest, not necessarily in that order. But I am honestly more drawn to well-written thoughtprovoking or moving fiction no matter the pairing.

Other fandoms: Tolkien. Also Doyle's rendition of Sherlock Holmes. I also have fallen in love with Doctor Who lately, but am not all that fannish about it. (I don't read or write fic, for instance.)

Other characters you love: Hmm, probably Denethor and by extension Boromir, Faramir, Imrahil, Hurin of the Keys, etc. I've also always had a soft spot for Bilbo and Celeborn.

Other pairings you ship: None, really. My shipping seems to have begun with Johnlock and extended to other members of the 221B world.

Non fandom related interests: At the moment, embarrassingly few. It's been a tough patch in RL and I'm indulging my inner child. But I'm leaving philosophy grad school so have an interest in things like justice, religion vs. secularism, and other deep thinky-thoughts.

Friends or just introducing yourself?: Well, I'm mainly introducing myself but would love to connect with other Sherlockians, be they Doyle-verse, BBC-verse, both, neither, or anything in between.

Anything else: True fact: Sherlock actually is a girl's name.
